The Real Living Wage Celebrates 20 Years – Proud to be a part of it!
It’s incredible to see that the Real Living Wage was started 20 years ago this year and claims to have put over £1.5 Billion extra into workers’ pockets!
We’re very proud to play the tiniest part in this movement and are delighted that so many other employers continue to commit to a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work across the UK. In fact more than 2,600 more employers have made this commitment since the first lockdown last year.
Since its beginning in 2001, the Living Wage Foundation says that its campaign has put back more than £1.53 billion into the pockets of over 260,000 low-paid workers. These figures come from research by the Living Wage Foundation and Cardiff Business School – a huge achievement!
Director Tanith Samuels maintains that
Our employees are our greatest asset and paying them at least the Living Wage makes good business sense, as well as underpinning our commitment to providing fully sustainable employment for all of our team
The real Living Wage is the UK’s only independently calculated wage rate based on meeting people’s everyday needs, and has just gone up to £9.90 per hour outside of London where we arel. It’s truly amazing that since its creation in East London in 2001, the campaign has grown from a Citizens UK initiative into a movement of over 8,000 accredited employers, including nearly half the FTSE 100 and thousands of small and medium sized businesses like ours.
Here’s to the next 20 years!
